Guide to new homelessness duties in England under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017

** NOTE: THIS DOCUMENT IS NOW OUT OF DATE **

A guide to the new duties local authorities will owe to homeless applicants in England once the amendments to Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 come into effect.

There's a chapter for each duty, that sets out:

  • the qualifying criteria (when the duty is owed)
  • what the duty obliges the local authority to do, and
  • the discharge criteria (when the duty can lawfully ended).

The guide is intended to help local authority staff prepare for the changes that are due to come into force in 2018.
