Ending relief duty because 56 days passed / non-priority decision previously notified

A letter for notifying a homeless applicant that the relief duty has ended (under section 189B(7)(b) of the Housing Act 1996).

Use this letter when:

  • 56 days have passed since the date on which you were first satisfied the applicant was homeless and eligible for assistance
  • you have complied with the s.189B(2) duty to take reasonable steps to help the applicant obtain accommodation
  • the applicant was previously notified of a decision that they do not have a priority need (during the 56-day relief period), and
  • the applicant is not occupying temporary accommodation (under section 188 of the 1996 Act).
