Final accommodation offer (6 month Assured shorthold tenancy) to end s.189B relief duty

A letter for making a final accommodation offer to a homeless applicant to end the homelessness 'relief' duty (under section 189B of the Housing Act 1996).

A 'final accommodation offer' is:

  • an offer of an assured shorthold tenancy
  • made by a private landlord
  • with a fixed term of at least six months
  • which is approved by the local housing authority
  • for the purpose of ending the relief duty (s.193A(4)).

The letter includes the information that must be provided before the offer is refused, should you wish subsequently to end the relief duty under section 193A.
