Private rented sector offer to end the main housing duty

A letter for making a private rented sector offer to end the main homelessness duty.

What is a 'private rented sector offer'?

A private rented sector offer is:

  • an offer of an assured shorthold tenancy
  • made by a private landlord
  • with a fixed term of at least 12 months
  • which is approved by the local housing authority
  • for the purpose of ending the main s.193 duty (s.193(7AC)).

Required information

The letter includes the information that must be provided before the offer is refused, should you wish subsequently to end the main housing duty.

The applicant must, before he or she refuses the offer, be notified of:

  • the consequences of accepting or refusing the offer
  • their right to request a review of the suitability of the accommodation, and
  • (in a case which isn't a restricted case) the effect of making a further homeless application within two years of accepting the offer (s.193(7AB).
