Refusal to carry out homelessness assessment as circumstances not changed since previous s.62 assessment (long version)

Use this letter when refusing to accept a repeat homeless application where there's been no material changes in the applicant's circumstances, and no new information has been received since their previous application was assessed (applying the test in section 62(2) of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014).

There is no statutory obligation to notify this decision. However, it is good administrative practice to do so. Notifying the decision will confirm to the applicant that their request for help has not resulted in an assessment. It also provides the council an opportunity to confirm its reasons for making the decision.

There is also a shorter version available (see 'related documents').

This version caters for a situation where:

  • You initially secured interim accommodation on a discretionary basis, whilst you make inquiries, and
  • The previous s.62 assessment was undertaken by another local housing authority.

This version also provides an expanded section for reasons, with illustrative examples.
